The “Zahamamena” forest stretches from the hills of the plateaus to the eastern coastal plain between Moramanga, Ambatondrazaka and its large lake Alaotra … and roughly Fénerivo-est.
We trekked it from 1996 to 2003 regularly and created the co-op of porters and guides from Antanandava. But the degradation of the environment (the burns) forced us to consider another route that goes around the national park of Andasibe-Mantadia, without entering it, but visiting the peripheral, wooded and intact area. On 6 days of trek, 4 take place in the forest and 2 stages are hard, committed, because in a dense environment which slows down the progression.
The pleasure is only more intense to penetrate the heart of a biodiversity still alive …

It takes 4 hours of tarmac + 2 hours of track to transfer to the starting point of the trek: that’s not a lot in Madagascar!
ITINERARY
Due to the numerous plagiarisms of our circuits, this description is summary, deliberately incomplete.
To obtain the complete description, simply pay a deposit on the price of the circuit for 4 people, which will be deducted from you in the event of completion.
DAY 1
Tana – Moramanga – village 1
- Transfer by 4 × 4 to Moramanga, supplies and lunch, then the track crosses the peeled hills to reach the village on the edge of the forest.
- Camping dinner and overnight in tents.
- Meals: lunch / dinner
DAY 2
Village 1 – Camp 2
- First step in the forest, a few villages and a recess and bumps course of about 5 hours.
- Camping dinner and overnight in tents.
- Meals: breakfast / lunch / dinner
DAY 3
Camp 2 – Camp 3
- Day hike to reach the bush camp site.
- Camping dinner
- Overnight in tents.
DAY 4
Camp 3 – Village 4
- Day hike to reach the bush camp site.
Hike : 6 hours - Meals: breakfast / lunch / dinner
- Camping dinner and overnight in tents.
DAY 5
Village 4 – Village 5
- Day hike to reach the stage village.
Hike : 6 hours - Meals: breakfast / lunch / dinner
- Camping dinner and overnight in tents.
DAY 6
Village 5 – Village 6
- Day hike to reach the ecolodge and finish the trek.
Hike : 5 hours - Meals: breakfast / lunch / dinner
- Night in bungalows (“simple” DBL or family category with bathroom and wc).
DAY 7
Village 6 – Tana or extension
- 1 hour is enough to join the RN2 for a comfortable return to Tana or consider an extension to the Pangalanes canal.
