MASOALA
The forest that falls into the sea!
The Cape Masoala ecolodge is located at the tip of Antongil Bay, far from everything. .. 7 days “on foot” from the first road and car, from Maroantsetra or Antalaha.
The boat connection is essential, it allows you to appreciate the landscapes of the coast, because Masoala is “the forest that falls into the sea” …
The return on foot (trekking) or by sea kayak is very appreciated by our visitors.
The vocation of this ecolodge is to serve as a comfortable base for lovers of Malagasy authenticity, biodiversity and adventure, who come to discover our exceptional environment: the two marine parks and the terrestrial forest park, but also and above all the population friendly and easy to access. The expression “village and community immersion” takes on its full meaning here, without exaggerating.

Vegetable garden, wood-fired bakery for fresh morning bread. Waste sorting and recycling.
Our fishermen neighbors provide the table with lobsters and fish (grouper, white tuna, jacks, bonito).
THE MARINE & TERRESTRIAL PARK
Masoala National Park was created in 1997. It is the largest protected area in Madagascar with its 235,000 ha of rain-forest.
Masoala has preserved remarkable landscapes, the last memories of what was the green island (the old name of Madagascar), relics of the dense rain forest.
As botanist Martin Calmander, filmed on site by Yann Arthus Bertrand, says, “this forest is so dense that 90% of the light never reaches the ground”.
Humpback whales (megaptera) come to breed there and stay in Antongil Bay from August to September.
The difficulty of access preserves this natural and human environment.
Here, ecotourism makes sense, because these fragile environments deserve to be approached with caution and respect. Your “gentle” visits encourage us to continue…

SEA KAYAK
Do you like to sail? Our two-seat, unsinkable, sea kayaks (Kleppers), fitted with a rudder and two sails are clean and discreet “discovery tools” (ecotourism). Easy learning in the protected lagoon of Masoala to master sailing and paddling. We can then envisage a program of 4 stages of navigation in a sea kayak by sail to cover the 60 km that separate us from the Tampolo area (then transfer by motorboat to Maroantsetra). Supervision by a trained kayak guide. Assistance boat (security), kitchen, logistics and luggage transfer.
Do you like walking? Several trekking tours are possible, from the shortest (4 days) to the longest (11 days) allowing you to complete the tour of the peninsula and enter the rainforest. Carrying of luggage, transfers by boat and motorbike taxis, local guidance.
“Cool” formula: Our boat transports you and you choose forest walks from 01 to 03:00 according to your desires.
REFORESTATION
The looting of forests, resources, remains THE major problem of Madagascar after its galloping demography …
By building the lodge we became aware on a daily basis of the damage that our neighbors caused here and there by the burning technique by clearing the primary forest to cultivate it for a very short time then to make it a degraded, exhausted area… We then patiently undertook to contact and convince those involved in the disaster to reforest their degraded plots. A work of patience.
Each traveler who comes here visits the nursery, participates in our reforestation project by choosing their tree (Nanto, Hintsy, rosewood, rosewood, callophilum, canarium) to plant it in the “working” area, in order to participate in this work urgently and leave its mark … concerned.
